Ambassador Bios

Caroline Borgia is a second grader at Belmont Hills Elementary in the Lower Merion School District, where her favorite subjects are science, French, social studies, and gym. Caroline has many interests. In addition to playing in her township soccer and basketball leagues and participating in Brownies, she is also a fan of arts and crafts, books such as Magic Treehouse and Junie B. Jones and her favorite animal magazines, music and dancing, cooking and baking, Legos and K'nex, and playing Mario Kart on the wii. Her favorite movies include "High School Musical" and "Madagascar", and she loves her numerous play dates with friends and spending time with family. She is also eager to learn how to create her own website! Caroline adores the beach and spending time in the water, and she is looking forward to camp and amusement park visits this summer. Caroline has always enjoyed attending Variety-sponsored events in the Philadelphia region as well as those at the Variety Club Camp and Developmental Center.

Marquis Austin has been part of Variety since his first trip to Sesame Place in 2004!! Ever since that wonderful day, he was sold and participated in Family Fun Days, Weekend Family Retreats, MLK Caring Carnival, just to name a few. Marquis enjoys building, (actually prefers knocking down towers of blocks), reading and especially loves to swim in the swimming pool at the Variety Club Camp. He along with his sister, Monique and parents Michael and Carmen have supported Variety in every way possible and are now proud to be “giving back” by taking on a leadership role and representing the Charity as Variety’s Autism WALK Ambassadors.

Resource Center Information

In response to the growing number of children diagnosed with Autism, Variety has established a Family Resource Center for this population. This center aims to provide early guidance, especially during the time immediately following diagnosis. The Center provides direct services such as seminars and workshops for families and caregivers of children with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders. It also provides peer counseling for siblings in order to best address the needs of entire families and a call center, which provides immediate support to families.

To kick off Autism Awareness Month, which is April, Variety will hold its fourth annual Autism Walk in the Plymouth Meeting Mall on March 29th to benefit Variety’s Family Resource Center. Families, schools, companies, and individuals will join together to raise money for this resource center which serves children with Autism NOW by providing early intervention and support!

Testimony

“We are happy to support the efforts of Variety – The Children’s Charity, in developing a regional Resource Center for children and their families with autism and similar disorders. The services provided by the Resource Center will benefit many of our patients and their families as they seek additional information and support for their child.”

Susan E. Levy, M.D.
Director, Regional Autism Center
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

This event also has the support of the Autism Society of America, who is proud to support Variety’s fourth annual walk for Autism.
