About Our Organization
The mission of Variety is to provide programs and services to children with disabilities. Variety is part of an international organization that serves myriad populations, including: children with physical and developmental disabilities, homeless children, and children with terminal illnesses. With over 50 chapters around the world, Variety has become the largest international children’s charity.
Variety of Greater Philadelphia serves children with temporary and permanent disabilities resulting from illness, injury, or congenital conditions. The Philadelphia chapter provides the following services:
• Camp and Developmental Center: This nationally-acclaimed 80-acre facility is open year round and provides a place for children to stay for weekend retreats or two-week long activity programs. The camp is home to a recreation center, indoor and outdoor pools, an amphitheater, a greenhouse, tennis and basketball courts, and overnight cabins.
• Direct Care: This program provides medical equipment for children whose families could otherwise not afford wheelchairs, specialty bikes, and other critical equipment not covered by insurance.
• Variety At Work: This program encompasses all of Variety’s special events and is comprised of a caring group of volunteers and Board members who offer their time and talents.
• Golf Buddy Program: This event pairs Variety’s children with Philadelphia Section PGA professionals to learn the fundamentals of golf and forge lasting friendships. Variety is the official charity of the Philadelphia Section PGA.
• After School Programs: This program provides various locations throughout the region for children with disabilities to receive academic and recreational support when the traditional school day is over.
• Autism Family Resource Center: This new initiative is a response to the growing number of children diagnosed with Autism. The resource center provides direct services to families and caregivers of children with Autism, especially during the time immediately following diagnosis.
